>9876543210987654321_01234567890123456789.mail "

The latter is correct, the .mbx file is "20chars.mbx" and the control file
is "20chars_20chars.mail" where the second 20 chars matches the .mbx file.

The iMS manual is still stating the older format that was used back in
earlier days of iMS, now changed. At least it is in the copy I have here at
home, Version 1.3 of the manual which might not be the latest.

Did you write the control file twice? IE, write it first with the control
status locked, write the message file, and then rewrite the control file
with status of unlocked? If you don't then funny things can happen as the
POST server is very quick off the mark :-)

We have seen the server not find posts because of what I just said, we have
never seen it get the filename wrong. You might need to stop the process in
the middle and see if you can see what the server is up to. Try to stop the
server after it has transferred the control file over to the queued folder
and then see what it says inside itself, is the file name correct or not?
We use little batch files to lay in the files and then stop the server dead
and then see what is where, etc.

>(thousands possibly) .mail files for that one .mbx file.

Nice idea, to save disk space/activity, etc, I assume, but the POST server
will delete the message file as soon as it has sent its message :-( What
you need to do is have one control file for each domain that you are
sending to and have as many destinations in there as you need with the one
message file, and duplicate that for every domain you have (and as an aside
limit it to say 100 accounts per popular domain like AOL or Yahoo so that
the system does not bog down, in fact we limit to 20 per send for AOL it is
so bad...)

Umm, one customer number sent to many destinations?

Its a good product, we have been using it since day 1 and have no
complaints. You do need to understand how it ticks tho' :-)
