The client is always the other side (the machine that the iMS server is connected to).
In this case, the iMS server has waited for
the other side to respond and it did not within the default timeout.

No, as most are either self-explanatory or refer to a socket error (you can look up
socket errors on sockets.com).

The two errors above are temp failures. A permanent failure occurs if there is no MX
for the domain or the server receives an error
indicating that the email address is invalid.

You can limit the bandwidth usage of the POST Server so that it does not flood your
connection. As for settings, I would definitely
enable MX caching for the POST Server. Also, disable templates that you may not need.
For example:
SMTP HELO template.
POP USER template.
Also, try only to use delivery notifications that you really need. For example, you
may only need to enable failed delivery
notifications.
Basically, limiting the calls to ColdFusion will speed up the server so it's always a
good idea to choose settings that affect
ColdFusion interaction.
