Howie, I am not opposed to a better product. The beta I tested did not exhibit this behavior so I was surprised. In my particular case (11,000 emails/hr), the number of files and folders that are created and when they get cleaned up is very important. My questions are directed to understanding this behavior. At the moment, I have wiped things clean and restarted with the option enabled. I will let it run and let everyone knows what happens.
I think iMS POST is a GREAT product. For the price, you can't beat it and the templates provide invaluable hooks into the bounce/failure process. If you will indulge me one more question. It looks like the .MAIL file is created in the \queue directory of the particular domain directory. The .MBX file is created in the domain directory. I assume when the mail is sent, both should be cleaned up. On my system, I have many domain folders with .MBX files in them with no .MAIL files in the \queue directory. Is this expected? Are they waiting to be cleaned up? I thought both would be deleted at the same time. In our tests, we have found that having a single folder for outgoing email is detrimental and we, therefore, decided that it was time to remove this one bottleneck from the iMS POST server. I must admit, this is not an idea that was created here - other email servers use this same method. I didn't expect that there would be anyone opposed to this idea and, in retrospect, we probably shouldn't have made it an option (we have a tendency to make too many things options in the iMS settings). We added this functionality so that our clients could benefit from it. I truly believe that it's superior to the old architecture and I encourage anyone using 2.4 to leave the multi-folder option enabled.
