The .MAIL files are deleted roughly 4 minutes later.  The reason for this is that we 
want to make sure that all of the
control files have been created and read before deleting the mail file.  Because of 
the speed of the server it's
possible that a control file could be read and processed completely before the server 
picks up another control file that
uses the same .MAIL file so we decided to create a deferred deletion system in the 
server.
