The answer to your question can really only be answered by AOL - each domain has a set of rules which might include reverse lookups of the IP address, server name or sender email address.  There are lots of criteria that can be examined and cause mail to be rejected.

i am completely perplexed.  i called AOL and opened a case.  they provided 2 addresses to me to send tests to and they are going to review everything. ...perhaps a solution will develop out of this yet...
 
at the very least it forces me to learn all the details of email and smtp to the 'nth degree...
 
one other question : could it be any of my settings at configuration?  during the Post Server install?  ...i am perplexed as to how it would reverse this ims server if there are no MX records for it.  (hopefully, i am using correct terminology...)
