I should explain a bit more: I'm not using iMS via CF; although the mail
does come from CF.
We're using iMS in two different ways; on our www server, iMS runs on the
same box. On our intranet server, iMS runs on a separate box. In both cases,
this was done cuz when I had CF pointing to our Exchange mailserver, any
messages going to an external recipient were not sent out. Rather than struggle
with our Exchange server, which I aint' gonna do; I picked up
iMS.
Now, here is the deal: I'm using the Relay and the Post services. SO, CF
Mail points to port 2525 (the iMS Relay service) which then spews it out
with the iMS POST service. (the SMTP and POP services are
disabled)
Our outgoing mail works fine now; but there are still a couple problems I
see:
1.) the aforementioned 'mailbox full' problem, where the recipient need
to do some housekeeping (i.e., I can't do anything about
that)
2.) I see bounced mail where the reason is somethign like 'this server
does not accept relay mail'.
Issue 1 I think could be handled by requeuing the mail; in the hope that
the person does indeed clean the box eventually. Of course, there would have to
be some sort of reasonable limit on the number of attempts and length of
time.
Issue 2, I'm not sure if there is a workaround to. That's where I wonder
if its just in how I've got iMS set up, and if somebody knows a
workaround.

Hi Alan,You could use the postfail.cfm template. You could have it write the data to the database and save the emailfile somewhere so that you could resend the e-mail manually later. Or, under certain failure conditions (i.e. mailbox full) you could have the postfail.cfm template resend the e-mail. Be careful with the second one, you don't want to have the same message sending forever.Marc

Subject: [iMS] Dealing with failed mailI'm still pretty new to using iMS, even though I've had it up on a couple servers now for a few months. It works, but I know little on how to make the best use of it.Here is one situation I'm sure you've all faced; failed mail. I see about 20 or so messages daily, which for one reason or another, cannot be delivered. Many of them are due to stuff like the recipient's e-mail box is too full (usually Yahoo! folks). Is there a way to grab all those messages and resend them manually? I know the system has tried and gave up as instructed. I'm sure there is, but I didn't see it in the docs (doesn't mean I read 'em word for word either, heh.)Alan McCollough
