We've got iMS for one purpose, to send bulk mail to opted-in recipients,
lists mainly about 60-70,000 individual email addresses
Now, I've done some testing, and unless I've screwed up the settings
with my experiments, then I think it's not running at the speed we
expected
As a test I've build 1,000 simple HTML emails, nothing major, just a
sample text with some formatting
CF builds them within a second or so - fantastic
iMS takes 1 minute 20 to put all 1,000 into the mail queue folder - I'm
assuming it's an OS speed issue
At 5 minutes it "starts" to send - starts moving them out of the DelPend
folder
At 7 minutes 15 seconds it's cleared out all 1,000
Now, it's not just the 5 minutes which is worrying me, but the 2 minutes
15 seconds to clear 1000 emails
According to the documentation, the "Maximum throughput per day" for
Enterprise (or Demo in this case) is 29,491,200 emails
This would be BRILLIANT - if I could get iMS to work that fast...
If we work on my timings, 1,000 emails takes 135 seconds, that's 0.135
seconds per email
Looking at the 29.5 million emails, that would take 3,981,312 seconds...
66,355 minutes, 1,105.9 hours, or 46 DAYS!
So, unless our install is running 46 times slower than the expected
installation, then it's just not doing what we want/need
If we extrapolate the timings (leaving the "in folder" to "send time"
alone)...
Move 70,000 files into the DelPend folder: 5,600 seconds (93 minutes 20
seconds)
Delay before send: 3 minutes 40
Send time (from DelPend Folder): 9,450 seconds (157 minutes, 30 seconds)
So, total time to send 70,000 emails would be: 254 minutes 30 seconds...
4 hours 14 mins, 30 seconds
I doubt our client will want to pay $6,000 for something that sends 10
times slower than their current system which runs across a 2 meg DSL
connection!!!
Can someone suggest some "optimisation" tweaks to get it running at
speed?
It's a dual PIII, 1.4, 1GB RAM, Win2k Server, CF5 (which is passing the
1,000 emails nicely)
