all the support manuals and docs are .doc files.  while i recognize that
almost everyone has OFFICE, most people do not run it on servers. ...for me,
i would like to be able to review docs on my server while working on ims, so
.pdf options would be more elegant.

at any rate, whether or not you agree, it does make sense to have .pdf and
.doc files from which the user can choose.
