I am not expecting the exact same results as in the manual. But I am using them as benchmarks to judge the performance of my installation and look for bottlenecks.

I just used the CYCLEPOST method to create 1 60 minutes log snippet. I searched the log for the number of occurrences of "sent successfully to". I got 6000 results. I understand that this does not account for undeliverable, timeouts etc. But shouldn't I be able to deliver more than 6000 emails per hour? Also, is there something else I can scan the logs for more accurate reporting.

There are notes in the manual regarding the test results and the factors that affect mail delivery speed.

Well, that certainly sped things up. Now I am seeing more like 100 messages per minute being delivered.

The manual says that the professional version of the post server can deliver over 7 million emails per day. Does this mean it can deliver Approx. 290,000 emails per hour / close to 5000 emails per minute!?
