Hi Max and Howie,

Delayed reply as I have been out all morning.

>Well I don't really understand why anyone needs a general-purpose virus scanner like
>NAV running on a *server* (these are client-side products),

We used not to have it running, the original thing about NAV did not come from us, if
I remember correctly, it was a while ago now :-), but we did install it recently as
some soul managed to activate a virus via an email being read in the web interface. We
used it to scan the machine and remove the email virus and generally tidy the whole
machine up. (FYI, the web interface puts an email's attachments into a dedicated
folder, not dissimilar to the way it was done in FusionMail 1, I don't know how FM2
does it, and this one ran itself. We have now made that directory read/write only to
stop that happening again)

The default NAV installation runs a weekly scan and we now know that it will not run
unless a user is logged in, it just starts up and sits with the progress dialog box
open but does nothing until you log in, then it bursts forth.

To answer this and Howie's comment. We most certainly stop scanning of certain
folders, including log files, that would take _for ever_ :-)

This thing happened as NAV opened up and waited, not when it was actually scanning.

>Also if you have NAV set to disable programs until it can perform a scan (or
>whatever's going on there), you're just asking for trouble sooner or later. IMHO
>anyway :-)

Agreed :-)

It is now disabled and will be run manually if we feel a scan is in order when there
is someone about to keep an eye on it.
