I don't doubt the man's beliefs or faith but just a question I know we're not supposed to worship idol's but what about if you become an idol is it still idolatry?
On the other hand I think there could be a bit of Christian tall poppy syndrome in all this. Whenever a Christian achieves success in the wider world the first thing we want to do is to question their authenticity - "he's probably not a real Christian then" we say, underlying this I think is an attitude along the lines of "real Christian's suffer, plod along and are battlers". I'm not saying everybody reacted this way, I've deleted most of the earlier comments so am going on a general impression from memory which is always dangerous, but I know I reacted this way. I heard this (good?) news and the first thing I wanted to do was pick holes in it or him. I think this says a lot about our culture as Christians we don't have a lot of respect for the things individuals achieve. Having said all that, I'm all for being counter cultural which is why you won't find me contesting in or even watching Australian Idol. I think there are plenty of good reasons for Christians to be opposed to such a contest but I think we should give credit where credit's due and not doubt the man's relationship with God or that he's trying to worship and witness to his faith the best way he knows how James ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julian Sortland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, November 06, 2003 5:31 PM Subject: Re: AUSTRALIAN IDOL - MAN OF GOD > Hi All, > > My sisters are involved in CCC here, and they and Mum were talking about > him being involved in Planet-Shakers, http://www.planetshakers.com.au/ > which I take is a youth-alive type event which is on in Adelaide and around > Australia. > > If you click the URL above, selact Flash and Band you will see a list of > Band members including a Guy Sebastian.
