Check out the meanings of EVANGEL (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evangel), EVANGELICAL (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evangelical), and finally EVANGELISTIC (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evangelistic).
I see much more about using the four gospels than anything else.
So, does that mean that it's against the evangelical 'charter' to quote Leviticus, Ephesians, etc?
My question was "what are the people who put those signs up trying to say and who are they trying to say it to?".
Is "evangelical" a word whose meaning is changing? The OED may explain it as "of or according to the teaching of the gospel or the Christian religion". But for some, evangelical may have more of a meaning of religious fundamentalism, religious intolerance, even religious bigotry. The press sometimes seems to use the word with that latter meaning.
And what of Peter's point? If evangelical means a focus on the gospels, then what about the rest of the canon? Do the gospels and their teachings have greater weight than teachings of say the letters attributed to Paul?
