Hi Clare and others

I tend to agree with Clare that there is a big difference between
request and the offer.

However, the whole exchange makes me a bit uncomfortable. I think this
might be because there seems to be some assumption of special ownership
in the pulpits or schools concerned. The concept that some collective
of pulpits is within the gift of Dr Jensen to commit is particularly
worrying. (Perhaps that's why he committed to a particular pulpit?). I
guess the other scientists referred to by Dr Hubble might have views on
being committed to this exercise too?

I'd like to add that I'm don't want to be heard as saying that speaking
about scientific method or theory from the pulpit would be inherently
problematic. It is just the concept of being directed to talk about it,
in the context of brief argument in the paper, is a bit annoying.

Does anyone besides me see a HUGE difference between allowing Hubble to
speak to 100-200 students at Moore (I'm guessing on the figures) who are

already fairly heavily indoctrinated into Anglican theology, and
Hubble's actual request to present his theories "from the pulpits"?
