Can you post the mouse protocol section of your XF86Config file. I tried
that (the -M forces -R) and set the protocol to MouseSystems and the
device to /dev/gpmdata, but it would not work (ie. no mouse activity at
all.) I am using the built in touchpad and an external Microsoft 2-button
bus mouse.
