I know this is a bit late, but I wanted to put in my two cents on it.

Actually, if you want to wait for about 2 or 3 months I'd almost gaurentee
that you'll probably find the xserver you are looking for. The problem is
that the linux guys don't release hardware. Of course there are going to
be cards on the market that linux won't support, the hardware manufactuarer
will make their card and their driver for nt and win and that will be it.
Given time or programmers, Linux Org will take the most widely renouned
cards (or the ones giving the most problems, I.e. Neomagic) and make an
xserver for it. However if you are not using bleading edge technology, I
can almost gaurentee a very easy and very headache free x setup. Remember,
Linux Org is a group of people doing this on their spair time. I wouldn't
expect that the most recent hardware will be supported immediately. THe
only way to do that would be to "force" the hardware manufacturers to write
Linux drivers for their cards or hardware. And I don't see that one
happening any time soon.

Since I haven't heard of any particular made-for-linux laptop, I'll
probably
not cancel my order. I look forward to the 15" screen, but I'm sorry about
the winmodem and X server difficulties. I object to having to get the XIG
server not so much because of the $160 (if it works as well as I hear, it'd
be worth that much). I object because I would like to have a configuration
which I could pass on to someone else with an Inspiron 7000 without them
having to buy anything extra. I want to be able to say get Linux
distribution so-and-so, then configure the following files like this, and
you'll be up on X. I want instant Linux!

This X server business seems like the big thing that holds so many people
back from trying and sticking with Linux. If only users could quickly and
easily get X running on their PCs/laptops ... it would be a tremendous
boost
for Linux.

Thanks for all the opinions. I won't cancel my order, but I'll still keep
searching to see if there isn't a laptop that is especially Linux-friendly.
