Hey everyone,
I've had my 7000 D300GT for a couple of weeks now, and I stumbled across
this
list today. I've seen a number of negative experiences and thoughts in
the mail
archive, so I thought I should share my good experience :-)
I'm running the 300GT with 192M Bytes RAM, 6.4G Byte disk drive, DVD-ROM
and two
3Com 10/100 cards (and a 56k modem, which usually gets left out).
So far, I've had a terrific experience with both customer service and
the
hardware itself. The salesperson that I spoke with before purchasing my
new
laptop seemed pretty knowledgeable, and to my surprise had my system
configured
with the PCMCIA modem -- I was expecting an internal model. When I
called, he
said that he thought the internal modem would probably cause me some
headaches
so he just went with the safe(r) alternative.
I've been an Accelerated-X user for several years; Whoever says they're
a green,
clueless company is mistaken -- apparantly you haven't talked to any of
their
developers, and don't know what goes into an X server! :-) So far all my
experiences
with them have been good. Linux and Accelerated-X installed without a
hitch, and
the combination hanldes my on-the-road and on-the-desk configurations
(with a big
display, keyboard & mouse) with ease. The display is great, it usually
lures me
away from the big screen on my desk :-)
So far my only real gripes are the lack of sound drivers (although this
looks like
a pretty decent chipset, so I'm sure we'll be seeing drives sometime
soon) and the
rather slow ethernet performance. I've seen a number of web pages with
scads of
Inspiron 3000/3200 suggestions, has anybody put together something
similar for the
7000? If not, I'll compile what I've gathered and start one.
