*CHEER* Finally one that I can answer correctly!!! :) Go to the web page
http://nts.ml.org/inspiron (failing that one go to
http://phoenix.evansville.edu/~raistlin/ and follow the links from there).
ALL the information and drivers you need to get the 3C575-TX card to work
under linux is there and provided. It's been maintained (but not updated
since august I don't think) by me exclusivly, so if you have any questions
about the process, send me e-mail at this list or personal e-mail at:

As far as your first problem goes, I've had the same problem..Again (this
one will need to go onto the web page at some point...) the fix is one (or
both) of the following two items...oh, and by the way. If anyone on this
list recognizes the below patches PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know at the
above addresses. I REALLY hate posting this without the proper attribution
to the wonderful person/people who figured this out..:) And since this is
the third time I've posted this fix, it gets lots of use...:)

I recently had to get the system board on my Inspiron 3000 replaced.
After I got it back, I could not get Linux rebooted because it was

Starting PCMCIA services: modules
With the kind help of several people on this mailing list, I was able
to get my ethernet card working by adding the line
PCIC_OPTS="irq_mask=0x8300" to /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia.

I saw this, and solved it by setting
PCIC_OPTS="irq_list=9,11"
in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia
It seems that IRQ10 (at least on the 3200 as shipped) causes problems.

These are the two solutions I've gotten for this problem. The first one
worked perfectly for me, I havn't tried the second one yet. I've got a
feeling they are the same solution (it kinda looks like it, both are
changing the irq it seems). Anyway, again, let me know if you have any
other problems..and good luck with getting your 3C575-TX working..mine does
and the instructions at the above web addresses should get yours working.
Also, Do yourself a big favor and check out the "tomba" link I've got on
that page above (forgetting the exact address). I've not seen a better
collection of information for the inspiron anywhere. Oh, and if you are
already going to tomba's page, my pages should be linked off of his (or
they were last I checked) so you can get to them from there also.

Subject: PC-Cards and 3C575-TX
Does anyone have any proven method of getting PCMCIA services to work
on the Inspiron 3200? I have yet to figure it out. Every time I try to
load them, the system halts at boot after displaying the following:
Starting PCMCIA Services: modules
The system requires a cold reset to recover from this. This occurs
regardless of whether there are cards present or not.
Also, assuming I get PCMCIA to work, what is the status of support for
the 3C575 Cardbus network card. I've seen reports that those made after
July are completely incompatible, but I've heard rumors that earlier
units can be made to function. (Mine was shipped in mid-June)
If it is possible to get it to work, what is the procedure?
