*ponder* well, I'm not disagreeing with you brian. It takes a while to
setup linux that's true, but he's got the benifit of having a 3K, and while
not the best system, it's been out there on this list the longest. Whereas
for the 7K which has only been out a short time and there isn't much info
on it, the 3K is almost a year old now. Most of the information he needs
to setup that laptop is on this list, on my homepage, or on tomba's page.
Also, most of the "bugs" and incompatibilities that existed that made the
3K a pain to support have been patched, fixed, or included in the most
recent software (the 3c575-TX card problem I ran into 8 or 9 months ago is
not supported in PCMCIA 3.0.6). While I agree, the best thing to do with
the machine is to buy youself a Linux Administration book of some type
(Que, SAMS, and the makers of the Linux Bible have been the most helpful to
me and my group of linux people), I'm not going to say it's impossible to
setup linux in a couple of days to support that laptop.

Hello Paul,
I would say that if you don't have *at least* a couple of weeks, it's
only going to frustrate you, and it probably won't be worth the trouble.
You will find people on the net that will give you helpful advice,
that is true, but I don't think you're going to find a personal assistant
who will walk you through each phase, and that's where you're going to
need the coupla weeks. Naturally, this is only my opinion, but I wouldn't
be sharing it if I hadn't learned the same lesson(s) myself.

The best thing to do I would say is get Redhat 5.2, read the first chapter
or so, dive in, and post questions to answers you can't find in the
docs.
