Hi, another question:
The machine that I'm thinking about does have a the systemboard "Supermicro H8DM3-2 MCP55 Pro So-F SAS"and two AMD Opteron 2378 2,4GHz QC So-F WOF. The CPU should be more than enough for a simple fileserver with some add. zones (for DNS, DHCP, CVS, etc) but should be also have enough CPU power for other tasks (e.g. compiling) if necessary. Q: Will disabling n cores using psradm also decrease the power consumption of the CPUs? If yes, I could disable for example 6 Cores for regular usage and only enable them if I need the CPU power. Alternative I could by the same machine with the systemboard "Intel? 3210 mit PXH-V Chipsatz " and a Intel? Celeron? 430 FSB800 1,80GHz 35W . But I'm not sure if this CPU is powerfull enough. Background here is: I'm searching for a server for my home office that should run 24x7. It will be used mainly as fileserver (with data on ZFS RAID with four 1,5 TB disks) running Solaris. And I'll create some zones on the server for DNS, DHP, cvs, rsync server and maybe some zones for compiling and testing new software. regards Bernd Hugh McIntyre wrote: > Bernd Schemmer wrote: >> Hi, >> >> does Solaris support the power managment features of the >> >> AMD Opteron 2378 2,4GHz QC So-F WOF >> >> On the opensolaris website I only found >> >> "AMD PowerNow! is supported on on systems running AMD processors that >> belong to Family 10h and greater.
