I've seen this sort of failure mode when OpenSolaris doesn't have a driver for the RAID chipset. For instance, I have a Dell XPS 420 box that has an ICH9R chipset which OpenSolaris doesn't support yet and so I have to disable this in the BIOS in order to see my disks under OpenSolaris. > Do I need to use a hardware RAID card to accomplish this rather than > the onboard RAID? Why not just let ZFS manage the disks in a mirrored configuration? I'm pretty sure that's recommended. Cheers, -- Glenn
