I've done exactly what you suggested: Uninstalled my current driver, rebooted, downloaded the latest driver for my video card, extracted it, modified the igpx32.inf, rebooted. After that, I opened the inf file again, to see if the modifications were there, and they were. Installed this driver, then rebooted.
I went to see if it the game was running without crashing, and, unfortunately, no. At first I tried playing the game only with the main startup commands: -dxlevel 90 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 - autoconfig After I realize it didn't fix, I added to the config.cfg file the command list found on http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/portal/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-42223055&pid=934386 But it didn't work, and the computer rebooted itself.
