I've done exactly what you suggested: Uninstalled my current driver,
rebooted, downloaded the latest driver for my video card, extracted
it, modified the igpx32.inf, rebooted. After that, I opened the inf
file again, to see if the modifications were there, and they were.
Installed this driver, then rebooted.

I went to see if it the game was running without crashing, and,
unfortunately, no. At first I tried playing the game only with the
main startup commands: -dxlevel 90 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 -
autoconfig

After I realize it didn't fix, I added to the config.cfg file the
command list found on 
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/portal/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-42223055&pid=934386

But it didn't work, and the computer rebooted itself.

Thank you very much for the help. I'm starting to lose the hopes that
still left... it seems that this problem is unsolveable :(
