There surely must be some reason why Win7 would BSOD though.

I would assume its one of the following:

HDD Drivers (if it BSOD's instantly on the start of Win7)
Faulty Hardware? (maybe win7 is more sensitive to bad hardware?)
Wrong drivers (I have heard of clean windows installs having
automatically bad drivers installed)
A BIOS option (try having native sata mode over emulated and vice versa?)
