lol same here. One way I would promote people to register on my website was to block important pages (like how to get on my game servers) to guests and make the page only viewable to members. But updates and news, that was open, so the server sounded good, but you needed to register.
Also some places have like special things for X amounts of topics and posts you make. Idk if google group supports such a reward though.
