I agree with espionage, restricting a few of the most important articles to members is a good ides, all people have to do to see then is register which is free and takes to whole of 5 minutes max to do, however I don't agree with places like Experts-Exchange (Shakes ones fist and curses that name) where to view anything at all you have to sign up for a 15 day trial just to see information! Also they pull crap were they will say once you have you 15 day trial you can view everything, that's not the case because I signed up for its trial to read certain info that only seemed to be on their forums and nowhere else, anyway I finally log in after a marathon of account errors and registration issues only to find that the info I was trying to read was "Restricted to Members" which is them trying to tell me to pay money for information which should be free, That's ridiculas and its no wonder they have lost popularity on google searches.

One way I would promote people to register on my website was to block important pages (like how to get on my game servers) to guests and make the page only viewable to members. But updates and news, that was open, so the server sounded good, but you needed to register. Also some places have like special things for X amounts of topics and posts you make. Idk if google group supports such a reward though.
