Mac is cool, and even a good computer to consider. But there's a slight problem, that some games(well, most of the games(excluding steam ones) are not released for mac).
Buy a Windows PC if you like power in your hands. Windows is the best platform for gaming. Linux is alright, although during gaming, it gives me headaches and I usually prefer it for programming and stuff. And yeah, in $999, I could get a hell of a graphics card and Core i5 or i7 processor and have the gaming rig in my home which would rule for at least 2-3 years. Hope it helps.
