The AMD+ATI recommendation does not stand in all situations. AMD+NVIDIA remains the most stable solution under Linux for example. Maxing games is easy. I have a Quad Phenom + SLI GF9600GTX system that can max anything I've tried in 1920x1080 except for crisis which runs perfectly in High.
