Because its made by crApple lol. I would imagine its just a requirement of the os, the mac os has always been a "pretty boy" in the Operating system race until windows 7 proved itself better but also it is a unix based OS so it may contain necessary SSE3 instructions. Once again probably just apple trying out something new and reducing compatibility even further.
