Well, if you take 2GB as a baseline requirements, you will have minimum acceptable performance, but of course having more will help indeed :) Gpu acceleration severely lowers performance with slow gpus, maybe a way to sell quadro plugins.
Like I said on my first post, it needs x64 architecture, but will install on x86 with hacks. Also, it will run on 2GB without so many issues like you're stating.
