Unlike others, I never said ultimate was faster, but giving the fact that they said home premium was faster than ultimate, then it's obvious that ultimate can be made much faster than home premium. At their base, they both have a win7 core, like you said.
About home premium becoming a ultimate version, that just can't happen because of the simple fact that ultimate has tools that can't be installed through windows update or by standalone hotfixes, they just come with ultimate, and never did with home premium (vista and 7). And a big lol at the mere thought of existing any difference in aero between versions. There's starter (tier 0), home basic (tier 1), and all the others (tier 2). Not so hard to understand :) And in case someone argues with it, M$ also states that, and I think they might know how to categorize windows versions... I'm surprised you switched av sw, specially for M$!? :S But then again, IT security goes beyond sw usage, and if you feel good with it, and are protected enough to both avoid being infected and infecting others, then go for it :) The really worrying part is, how far will M$ go to turn windows into a noob/newb friendly OS? How will the power users be affected? There is already a ton of features that disappeared since vista, some which can be restored through official and/or unofficial patches, but still can be quite some work. One final note about win7 hp and ultimate. When extra tools have nothing to do with boot, logon, services, dependencies, etc, they won't affect performance one bit, will just be extra bytes laying around on the hdd. And yes Angelic, ultimate has a terrible thing, that home premium is much better.
