A lot of people believe that, and yeah, I didn't like Final Fantasy XII as much as other games, but that still makes no sense to me after they're successful with Final Fantasy X-2 and XIII (which has an excellent storyline), and of course, The Third birthday for PSP. I haven't tried it, but it seems almost as excellent as the namesake Resident Evil series. But my favorite would still be FFVIII. Yeah, SquareSoft did some sound work in making of FFVII and FF VIII. Of course, Final Fantasy X was a good game, too.
and yeah, With a few mods, BFVietnam is okay. Without any mods, not as nice, though. BF1942 is world-class, provided that you have Desert Combat Final Mod installed. Without it, it's still an excellent game, and worth playing several times.
