Hello everybody,

my question is probably a bit unusual. I am an Italian translator; I
can work in Italian, English and German. BUT! Two months ago I moved
to the Netherlands. I would like to start working here too, but my
problem is, I still can't speak Dutch! (after 8 weeks here and because
of knowing German I can read texts, which is already something, but
actually speaking it fluently is not as easy!). I sense this is
starting to be a problem when I look for work, even if I'd work from
one foreign language ot another and not pass through Dutch at all (and
even if most Dutch people speak very good English).

So I was wondering, has any of you experienced the same situation of
being a translator unable to speak the language (any language,
anywhere)? What problems did you have? Do you have any suggestions?
Does it get better later?
Thank you in advance for your helpful comments on this.
Paola
