I think one or two people have set up numeric pager notifiers to dial their numbers, so that when they get a call from the right number and just get the tones, they know they'd better check InterMapper. Not high-tech, nor very informative without checking the map, but something.

Yup, that works for us. We use it only if our entire connection to the Internet goes down (we call the probe "The World" and it pings Google) which means InterMapper can't email us notifications to the phone. Our phones have caller ID so we know the number that is calling means trouble in case we miss hearing the spewing tones!
