Hi Jakob, I don't know about the G5, but the new Intel Xserves feature "lights-out management" which replaces the old Server Monitor daemon that was used by the Xserve G5/Tiger InterMapper probes. The current Xserve probes do not support the new monitoring protocol (IPMI) and will display the error that you are seeing.

Hi, I have two Xserves right next to me, that both return the following error. Both are running 10.4.8 Server, one is a G5, the other a brand new Intel server. Device Status Name: DBA-SERVER DNS Name: (Unknown) WINS Name: DBA-SERVER Address: 192.168.1.10 Status: UP Probe: Xserve Tiger (port 311) Up Time: n/a Availability: 100 % (of 17 minutes, 38 seconds) TCP Failures: 0.0 % (of 37 total attempts) Short-term Packet Loss: 0.0 % (of 37 last attempts) [Reset] Recent Failure: None Round-trip time: 149 msec Xserve Information Last updated 06 Feb, 10:40:43; interval: 30 seconds Reason: [Xserve] Improperly formed data in response. Anyone know why this happens?
