Hi all,

We have written some snmp probes for Windows, but find that approach
labor-intensive and we seem to have to tweak and have specific probes for
specific systems. We have also used the Windows Service Probe, which works
for monitoring Windows services, and only Windows services. Surprisingly I
found nothing in the Dartware Contribs for Windows.

I contrast this with the Big Brother monitoring system. Once you load the
Big Brother Windows Client on a Windows server, you can be setup to monitor
event log, disk, ram, services, paging, etc. etc. within a couple minutes on
any Windows system. The BB Windows Client has a nice GUI for configuring
all this.

I've also tested the hybrid -- setting the IM Probe Type to Big Prother
Probe, and that works to an extent but you lose a lot of granularity. See a
screen shot of it here:

The Page File info doesn't display at all, and the Network Info should be in
a fixed-width font or it doesn't display correctly. The granularity loss is
that I can't graph any of the metrics.

OK, you get the idea. Here is my summary:
1. Does anyone have a way of comprehensively monitoring Windows servers
using Intermapper that they're really happy with?
2. Why are the built-in Dartware probes such as that for Big Brother
un-editable and un-viewable? They don't cost extra, so making the probe
code open wouldn't risk an income loss. How about opening them up?
3. I'm not trying to pit Big Brother against Intermapper. I just used the
BB Win Client as an example of a probe I found very easy and effective.

Thanks,
