Hi David et al,

I performed the symlinks on those particular directories (/imdc/logs imdc/config ) and Intermapper and IMDC are generally happy. (used "sudo mv" to move the directories to retain all the permissions nicely, then made the appropriate symlinks).

Just wanted to report this works great.

As far as InterMapper DataCenter goes, you can't relocate the entire thing and have that work across upgrades, but you should be able to symlink the two directories that matter. Those are /usr/local/imdc/ config (configuration, including the database and database backups) and /usr/local/imdc/log (log files).

I should note that symlinks have so far only been used for /usr/ local/imdc/config/database. Although I don't see any problems, symlinking the entire config folder, or the log folder, is not something we've tested. Please make sure that everything is properly backed-up, etc. I'd also take a peek at the OS X Console during the first upgrade install, just in case there are any errors.

Most importantly, when you move the files to your RAID, make sure that everything keeps precisely the same ownership and permissions. The database, for example, requires that /usr/local/imdc/config/ database have 0700, for security reasons. If you change it accidentally, it will refuse to start.

And, as Michael Graziano pointed out, if you only want to move the database, you can use a PostgreSQL feature called tablespaces. It makes the database write most of its data to a different partition, without having to move or symlink anything. As such, it's the most reliable method, though it takes slightly more work to set up. If that's what you're interested in, I believe we have a KB article explaining the process; let me know and I can get you a link to it.

David

How do I get Intermapper and/or Intermapper IMDC to nicely "live" on
