I agree as well...  We maintain an MRTG server to do long term trending because 
of this limitation.  Our task of moving graph data is no easier in MRTG but we 
are used to it.

I agree with this.  It's a big limitation in IM that makes it unsuitable 
for keeping long term trend data.  There should ideally be a GUI way to 
move chart data.  In addition to the example below, we often see 
configuration changes move the the logical source of the data around, for 
example:

-A primary switch uplink moves from one interface to another.
-An index changes in the HR mib due to a device addition removal, or 
net-snmp upgrade.

I think some solution to this would be incredibly useful.
