Is there any special steps one needs to take when transitioning from 5.3 to 5.4

First, install the InterMapper-5.4 package. If you want to use Layer 2,
then install the InterMapper-DataCenter-5.4 package also. (If you don't
install DataCenter, you will see a notice indicating it is not installed
in the Layer 2 settings window; everything else will run fine.)
InterMapper itself puts a minimal load on your computer system. However,
IM Reports is a different story. If you have a large InterMapper
installation and you turn on IM Reports, you will notice an immediate
performance degradation due to heavy I/O. If your InterMapper server is
reporting to an IM Reports instance running on the same machine, we
recommend that you tell IM Reports to use a separate disk (a separate
hard drive not just a partition).
