Glad to know it was solved.
It has happened to me before when reinstalling the same version of Windows (NT and later) on a computer, that if you have to re-create the user accounts all permissions are lost. This is due to the fact that a unique identifier ("SID") is created for each user and even on a well-running machine, deleting the user and re-creating it (yes, with the same username!) yields a new SID, hence wreaking havoc on security settings, which are of course internally tied to the SID instead of the username.
Now you get to keep some hair! :)
