The Corruption Eradication Commission confirmed on Friday that it would summon
Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum over a scandal in the development of
the Hambalang stadium in Bogor.

“We will question Anas during our investigation,” said Johan Budi, spokesman
for the antigraft commission known as the KPK.
Johan did not specify when the KPK would question the chairman of President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democratic Party. He only said the KPK had
questioned officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, the
National Land Agency (BPN) and consultants of the Hambalang project.

Anas has been accused by several witnesses of rigging the Hambalang project,
which was worth Rp 1.2 trillion ($132 million), during the hearing of another
graft case surrounding the construction of the athletes’ village for the
Southeast Asian Games in Palembang last year.

The party’s former treasurer, Muhammad Nazaruddin, and lawmaker Angelina
Sondakh have already been named suspects in the SEA Games scandal, but Anas has
not despite a barrage of accusations that he also received kickbacks.

In the Hambalang case, however, the KPK, which launched its probe in August
last year, has yet to name suspects.

Later on Friday, Anas said the KPK should not bother linking him with the
Hambalang case, claiming he would hang himself from the National Monument
(Monas) if he received any kickbacks.

Anas said he had nothing to do with Hambalang, challenging the KPK to prove his
connection with the project.

“If there was even one rupiah that Anas received from Hambalang, then just hang
Anas at Monas,” he said, insisting that all the accusations against him were
just “rumors without evidence and totally rubbish.”

The Hambalang stadium is a project under the Ministry of Youth and Sports
Affairs.

The ministry started taking bids for the project in 2010 with a budget of Rp
1.2 trillion. According to Nazaruddin’s testimony, the effort to be awarded the
project began in May 2009 when he and Anas met with Dudung Purwadi, president
director of Duta Graha Indah, and Dudung’s employee Mohamad El Idris to
discuss Hambalang.

Nazaruddin said he was called by Anas and Angelina to meet with Youth and
Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng to discuss the project in December 2009. The
meeting was at Andi’s office, with House of Representatives Commission X and
Youth and Sports Ministry officials there.

They agreed Andi and Angelina, members of the House Budget Committee, would
work on allocating funds for the project. The details of the allocation would
be discussed by Angelina and Andi’s secretary, Wafid Muharam.

In January 2010, Anas ordered Nazaruddin to arrange a meeting between Angelina
and Mindo Rosalina Manulang, an employee at several companies allegedly owned
by Anas and Nazaruddin. Rosalina has been convicted in the SEA Games scandal.

“After that, Rosa was required to report to Anas,” Nazaruddin said. “In April
2010, Anas decided Adhi Karya should win the contract because, according to
Rosa, DGI could not finance the Democratic Party congress, which needed Rp 100
billion
