Inggris Jual 24 Pesawat Tempur ke Indonesia
LONDON
Ini menandai berakhirnya penerapan embargo militer selama 10 tahun.
Inggris menjual 24 unit pesawat tempur Eurofighter Typhoons senilai 2 miliar
pound sterling ke Indonesia. Penjualan pesawat tempur senilai Rp 29,2 triliun
pertahanan kedua negara.
Memberi Indonesia global expertise untuk memodernisasi aset militernya,”kata
Cameron.
Selain membahas perdagangan peralatan militer, pertemuan bilateral itu
menyepakati pembelian 11 unit pesawat Airbus A330-300 senilai US$ 2,54 miliar,

With Cameron in Jakarta, Garuda Inks $2.5b Deal to Buy Planes From Airbus
Dion Bisara, Tri Listiyarini & Arientha Primanita | April 11, 2012
resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and British Prime Minister David Cameron said
they would try to double trade between their countries within three years as
Indonesian airline Garuda inked a $2.5 billion deal with Airbus in Jakarta on
Wednesday.
Cameron, on a 24-hour visit to Jakarta, told a joint press conference that
Indonesia was exhibiting impressive growth and showing resilience against the
global economic downturn.
“We set a new objective to at least double bilateral trade over the next three
years, with specific action plans to get there,” Cameron said.
Yudhoyono praised Britain as one of Indonesia’s biggest trading partners and
investors, expressing hope that both countries could achieve “higher and more
balanced bilateral trade.”
Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Britain grew from $2.63 billion in 2010
to $2.89 billion last year. Investment has fluctuated wildly in recent years;
in 2010, Britain was Indonesia’s second-biggest investor, with investment of
$1.89 billion, up 222 percent on the previous year, but it then fell 78 percent
to $419 billion last year.
The visit, Cameron’s first to Indonesia, was part of Britain’s efforts to tap
new markets in one of the world’s fastest growing economies as it looks to
offset sluggish growth at home and in the troubled European economy.
In the Garuda-Airbus deal, the airline will buy 11 A330-300 planes from the
manufacturer.
Around 140,000 jobs are generated in Britain by Airbus, a European consortium,
and Cameron said the deal would be a great boon to the British aerospace
industry.
Garuda president director Emirsyah Satar said the planes would be used to serve
the airline’s Asia and the Pacific routes.
“We chose the planes because they can fly eight to nine hours nonstop,” he said.
The agreement is the second inside a year between the two companies after
Garuda ordered 25 medium-range A320 Airbus planes for a catalog price of $2.18
billion last June.
Cameron said the trade relationship between Britain and Indonesia should go
both ways.
“We encourage more Indonesian investment in the UK,” he said. “We will also
launch a priority visa service in May for regular business travelers to
Britain.”
Besides the airplane deal, Cameron is expected to try to persuade Yudhoyono to
buy defense equipment from Britain after the country lifted a ban selling
military wares to Indonesia.
Cameron told the media on Wednesday that Britain wants to sell “some of the
best defense equipment in the world” to Indonesia, adding that executives from
some leading British defense firms were accompanying him during his visit.
