The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued a travel ban for
prominent Indonesian businesswoman Hartati Murdaya, a financier of President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, over bribery allegations.

Hartati and four other people have been implicated in a corruption scandal
surrounding Hartati’s palm oil plantation company Hardaya Inti Plantations — a
subsidiary of Cipta Cakra Murdaya, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said. The company
was seeking a permit to operate a palm oil plantation in the Central Sulawesi
district of Buol.

Hardaya Inti Plantations’ general manager Anshori, director for operations
Gondo Sudjono and Buol district head Amran Batalipu have all been named
suspects in the case, Johan said.

“[We issued the letter] so that they wouldn’t be somewhere overseas when they
are needed for questioning,” Johan said.

Anshori was arrested by KPK investigators in Buol on June 26 after the
anti-graft body allegedly caught him handing Buol district head Amran money in
exchange for the needed permit, he said.

Anshori and Gondo resisted arrest in Buol, KPK chairman Abraham Samad said.

Gondo was able to escape, but was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in
Tangerang on June 27.

Amran also fled the scene after a group of men working for the district head
rammed the KPK's car with their own vehicle.

He was caught a few days later, Johan said.

Hartati is a renowned benefactor of Yudhoyono. She was a significant supporter
of his campaign for the 2009 presidential election.

She is also the majority owner of the Jakarta International Expo.
