I don't understand how you can physically connect a IOIO v1 to an OTG cable or to a PC. It was certainly not designed for that use case. This is why the IOIO-OTG (v2) was developed. Also, if the trimmer turns freely it is broken. You should still be able to find the maximum clockwise point before it would drop the charging indicator from Android. Sounds to me like you maybe doing something wrong as far as connections go. Your 2.3.7 device should work fine as long as you enable USB debugging.
