X artificially forbids window reparents between root windows. It might've made sense back in the day, when one might've been runing a big high-resolution B&W display and a smaller colour display, but these days it doesn't; in practise most combinations will use a TrueColor visual with the exact same bit depths. It would make sense to remove that restrictions (see [1] for details), but the fuckwits and dickheads working on X are instead pushing the Xinerama-style braindamage that only offers multiple views to a single-head model, instead of a proper multi-head model. > Even the xinerama devs know it's shit, thus the coming of XRandR. Xrandr 1.2 is exactly the same shit is Xinerama, as explained in "The downfall of X" [1] already linked. Xrandr 1.1 worked with traditional X multihead, Xrandr 1.2 only works with Xinerama-style model-less view-only braindamage. [1]: http://iki.fi/tuomov/b/archives/2008/07/13/T18_03_06/ -- Tuomo
