Ew. My mistake, then. I hopefully assumed that when I read a while ago that it was designed to 'replace' it, I hoped it was an improvement. I've always managed to avoid such braindamage by using the Nvidia TwinView drivers. But of course you need an Nvidia card and the 'nvidia' driver to do that, which on some OSen (OpenBSD springs to mind), you can't.
