Sure true of the devel branch, but the stable Ion is rock solid already, the fact that is ``masked'' a bit to casual visitors when they see a snapshot-like looking version number.

If I was a newby checking out the website and saw:
Download: - Stable version: ion-2.4.tgz - Development version: ion-20030531.tgz
It would give me an idea that this is not just some brand-new half finished project. Or a half finished and abandoned project. (There are lots of those floating around the place.)
I'd like to see simple version numbers on stable, but the current scheme on devel is fine.
