Hi Kevin, as others already mentioned: if your device(s) have Simlock, you can't simply put in an italian sim card.
Forget about free WiFi in Italy. They are restricted by law and you'll hardly find one. Here's another idea (something I did frequently over the last couple of years): - use a pay-as-you-go sim-card from the carrier 'Three'. Three is very flexible in Europe - they work in UK, Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark (everywhere three has a network) at local prices (which are cheap). AND you can buy the card in UK (three.co.uk), which may be easier for you unless your italian tongue is good and they still work at local rates in Italy (I dunno, if there's a three-network in Sicily, though). - get a small MiFi-router (e.g. Huawei 5830, or E5), so you can surf the web with all your devices at once (with only one contract/card) - get a cheap and unlocked phone, just in case you want to call somebody locally - get a SIM/Micro-SIM-Adaptor to be flexible The only disadvantage is, that you must switch on the MiFi, if you want to go online.
