Doesn't work on my iPhone 4 neither.
Beeing able to zoom in the contact list would just be useless to me... 
I discovered that you can actually scroll in an iframe on iPhone using two 
finger scrolling. Pretty handy sometimes, but I'm pretty sure less than 5% of 
iPhone users know that.

You can do it yes, but nobody does since it's not user friendly to do so. Same 
for zooming in a contact list, nobody would do it. Same logic applies for a 
webapp. Keep it simple, obvious, quick (apple doesn't need to provide a 80 
pages paper guide w/ its phone cause everything is obvious, at non-optional 
capabilities cost here & there)
