I asked this question back in March and it was taken over answering other issues.  Does somebody know if it is possible?

Right now I don't have a single box running x86_64 with the needed development tools (All are dedicated production boxes).  But I can't easily convince anybody to allow a install of the development stuff on one unless we know it works then only for a very short period of time to do the build.

Sorry I must have missed this the first time it came through..

I did recently use ipmitool on 2.6.18-rc3 (x86_64) without any problems, but ipmitool was compiled as a 64bit binary.  Is there any chance you are using a 32bit binary with a 64bit kernel?  This is not something I have tried recently and it could be broken...
