I'll have to go back and see which 64 bit version I have compiled and pull the 
newest one then get it rebuilt.

        Sorry I must have missed this the first time it came through..
        
        I did recently use ipmitool on 2.6.18-rc3 (x86_64) without any 
problems, but ipmitool was compiled as a 64bit binary.  Is there any chance you 
are using a 32bit binary with a 64bit kernel?  This is not something I have 
tried recently and it could be broken...
