We use all Dell hardware and the only thing we set is the Address type (static or dhcp), for static we also set the IP address, network mask and gateway address that is it.
Now on Dell hardware I can tell you that the BMC rides on the same physical NIC connection as the first eth connection on the box. Because of that you can NOT create a LAN based connection to the BMC IP from the box that you are on as it would need to go out and back in on the same interface and that's not possible unless you install a loopback cable into the NIC, which then defeats the network connection to anything else. So if that is how you are checking it, that could be why it is failing. For checking the local box use "ipmitool -I open ..." -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Daniel Toma Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 8:45 AM To: ipmitool-devel@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Ipmitool-devel] Set in Progress Arkadiusz Miskiewicz wrote: > Reset your BMC (ipmitool mc ....)
